All Honda Pilot engines have timing belts from the model years 2003 to 2023. In the end, if I had to do it all over again. On an interference engine, the second guessing and paranoia you messed something up, is stressful enough as it is! But I can definitely see why someone would just rather pay a mechanic $300-500 to do the job. In the end it was indeed perfectly fine so when I spun it "four times" I'd really only spun it 3x, putting #1 at BDC lol. By the time I'd replaced the belt (which was the next day) I was still so mentally exhausted over the whole thing that I spun the engine "four times" by hand and to my horror the timing mark did not sit back at the TDC mark Thinking I had effed it up I called my neighbour over and lined it back up to TDC first and then spun it 2x (you really only need to do 2x but some people say better to do 4x), and a breath of relief when it was dead on. It wasn't the belt that was difficult it was getting the damn engine mount out (transverse engine) that was the real pain. If an engine is equipped with a timing belt, the timing belt must be replaced at the service interval specified by the vehicle manufacturer regardless of. I nearly got defeated changing what should have been a really simple timing belt a couple months ago. Aisin may even be the OEM but you'd have to look into that as I have no idea. Also if you find out who the OE is you can just buy that kit/parts and will be cheaper than Honda. If it's non-interference might as well go with the cheaper kit(s). The $350 labour option sounds good-that's pretty cheap TBH. Still, even if it is non-interference you probably don't want to get stranded/have to tow when it does break. What year and engine Pilot is it? It could be non-interference as I believe some of the Honda 3.5Ls are non-interference. ![]()
